Congratulations Leigh,
It is a sobering experience to celebrate the 50th anniversary of an
aircraft, particularly one that has so much care given to it such as GDN.
Have fun at Waikerie and don't put the newer gliders to much shame. See you
at Bordertown.

Subject: [Aus-soaring] 50th Anniversary

Happy New Year All,

Today my aircraft celebrates the 50th Anniversary of its first flight.

Grunau Baby 2B , VH-GDN, was assembled at Camden and flown on this day
in 1955. Six flights were made for a total time of 8 minutes and 50
seconds., according to the first logbook. Every second counted in those
days.

I rang three of the four builders to let them know of the event. Jack,
the fourth builder, has gone to that great hangar in the sky. The three
remaining builders still live in the Sydney area and, not surprisingly,
with all the water that has gone under the bridge, don't remember much
of the day. They would have to refer to their logbooks to refresh their
memories, they said. If they could just remember where their logbooks
were, they said! These guys are all now 80-ish.

Tomorrow, I'll be taking her to Waikerie for a spot of flying before
going down to Bordertown for the Vintage Regatta, starting next Saturday.

I've attached a pic of the builders in their younger days.

Cheers,

Leigh Bunting
