Copy the link out to somewhere else like notepad & remove the end of line (CR) so that it is all on one line & then cut/paste it into the explorer address bar. Alternatively paste the first line into the address bar & then add the next line onto the end of it. These usually get mangled by the email client which truncates lines to keep them all nice & tidy & readable ;-)

Cheers
Don

I apologise. I should have said 'REPORTING' of accidents. As I am no longer
a pilot I no longer receive Soaring Australia; so the reference to the

the link provided would not open. Sincerely, Ron Baker.

To say the GFA Executive is lax in the investigation of accidents is

absurd.

All accidents are investigated promptly, and the coroner is usually

involved

where there are fatalities. Reporting has also improved, with the last
summary of accidents reported in the August 2004 edition of Soaring
Australia.

It is worth remembering that there are no "new" types of accidents and
lessons previously learned remain relevant today. We just need to keep
reinforcing those vital aspects that can reduce the risk of accidents.

A news report of the latest accident can be found using the following

Hi,
Being an ex member of Gympie SC, I commiserate with all of the members in
their sad lose of a member under such tragic circumstances.
However I do agree with Robert that the GFA hierarchy appears to be so lax
in the investigating and the reporting of accidents. Perhaps I am wrong,

but

like Robert, I cannot recall a detailed report for many years. The last
report that I can recall was back in the dim dark past when AG was in its
smaller format. However I am glad it was not a Puchacz to add to the sorry
history of that type.

Hi

With yesterday's fatality at Gympie, there have now been three fatal
glider crashes in about 12 months here in Australia. During that time
there have also been a number of accidents involving serious injury.

I know we all extend our sympathy to the friends and families of those
involved.

The problem is that we are currently incapable of learning from these
terrible happenings. This is not because we, as individual pilots and
instructors do not wish to learn from them, but that, even where
investigations into accidents do occur, the GFA does not publish any
accident reports.

We are therefore incapable of learning where our system failed in these
instances and thus remain at risk of becoming the victim of the same
'system failure'.

A perusal of the GFA council/board minutes will show you that this issue
has been on the GFA's plate for some considerable amount of time, with
no apparent progress.

I would ask that individuals speak to their state representatives,
requesting the council/board to instruct the executive to expedite this
issue and, in the meantime, report in detail on what is holding up the
issue. Such a detailed report will allow the accumulated wisdom of the
membership to be applied to help the executive find a satisfactory
solution with as little further delay as is practicable.

I am sure none of us want to see anyone killed or seriously injured due
to the lack of adequate accident investigation and reporting, but that
is exactly what the current lack of progress on this issue is inviting.
