The problem here is a small group in the "organisation" trying to keep all
knowledge and power closely held.

Aha! The classic conspiracy theory! Usually used by people to explain their failure to have their views accepted.

The structural problem is the heirarchical nature of the organisation. The
GFA isn't the military and it should not try to be. Emilis know that I am
getting at here I think.

I do too! So why do you think abusing Bob Hall would change THAT? Jenny is now part of that organisation. What is she doing to change it? What are she and Ralph doing to change it? I'm fascinated that she wrote as if she's just an ordinary GFA member but she's actually on the Council!

Technically, it's a collegial system. The elected State Association Council members elect the GFA Councillors. While direct elections by GFA members would probably be the best, the main weakness of the current structure is actually that the State associations (apart from SAGA) appear to be pretty well moribund.

I'm glad you at last agree the problem is structural (as I've argued several times before), almost dysfunctional. Blaming the people doing the job is, as you and a number of others have said with regard to accidents, counterproductive. This is a classic case of systemic failure and assigning the cause to "pilot error" misses the point and won't fix anything.

I suggested privately to Rob Hart several programs which might be followed to effect structural change to the GFA but he's done nothing to organise the work needed to implement any of that change. He continues to take the easy road and just attacks the office holders in the same way you do, Mike.

I will continue to hound (I think that was the word Rob used) you and Rob and any others who attack the PEOPLE. The problem is the SYSTEM and I see no sign of you or any of the other critics being prepared to settle down for the three or four year long haul needed to effect organisational structural change.

Let me say again, what I said at least twice before. A fundamental requirement for structural change towards democracy is changing the basis for representation on the governing body. Will Jenny and Ralph support direct election? Are they organising support from other reps? Or have Ralph and Jenny so isolated themselves they have no chance of getting support from the other States for ANY Queensland proposal?

By the way, the first time I heard you blasting the GFA as a self-appointed clique of power hungry control freaks is now over five years ago. Since then, the entire GFA Council and most of its staff have changed. How come all these new people are the same as all the old people? Or was your analysis as wrong then as it is now? I'm losing faith in your people skills, Mike. :)

By the way by the way, I proposed some volunteers be found who would be the "RTO" type person the GFA could give a mobile to and ask him to be the on-call contact person - as someone proposed and a lot of others agreed would be a good idea. It's now well over 14 days and not one name has been put forward. I guess that kills that idea.

It also makes my point that the first problem with the GFA is a shortage of workers. Mike? YOU could do it. I think you'd be a real hit with the Press ...authoritative, helpful, articulate, knowledgeable, patient - all the skills.
