Chris is correct; I was thinking of John's painstaking work of art.
I was also referring to him **not** belonging to our Club, just because he
was not helped build it. Had been in our Club, he would have been subject
to our annual check flights in a glider and hopefully any bad habit of
thermalling low and slow would have been identified. Also we hope he would
have absorbed our safety culture.

Robert: Yes, one of members spun in at DDSC and he certainly had had a check
flight with us plus training for AEI. He also broke every rule in the book
of cross country soaring before the inevitable spin in! Clubs cannot be
held accountable for pilots who deliberately break the rules.

I am going to a meeting of the motor gliding club at the Caboolture Aero
Club tonight where no doubt the accident will be discussed and the people
first on the accident scene will be there.
