Is there anybody out there in GFA reading this that could make a decision on
stocking the promo DVD. I gather the GFA have largish stocks of the Video
and may be reluctant to order the DVD version. OK we can order fron John R
in NZ but it is much easier to get 20 or so from GFA when ordering log books
or Basic Gliding Knowledge. I am sorry I do not know who the president is
these days! let alone the treasurer of GFA. Think Terry Cubley is still
into promotion. I know our club bought the first 100 videos from NZ and
have probably given away another 100 to people we think show interest.
Still selling videos is a bit like selling slide rules when calculators are
available!!

G'day All,

I was lucky enough to get a couple of Bibles - Riechman and Winning 2
(George Moffat)! I can highly reccomend Winning 2, it's a brilliant read.
Goes right into what it takes to win, psychology, attitudes, stories,
skills, starting comps and many other interesting bits and pieces...

And Riechman, well everyone knows about the Riechman...

So look out come time of the Kingaroy Nats '06!!

Regards,
Adam

P.s. 10months to go until my next glide :(

Ian

Several people "out there in GFA" are reading this list. Terry Cubley, Ian
Grant, Richard McLean and myself are all Marketing & Development Committee
members, and several of the items which are discussed on Aus-Soaring make
it into our own discussions. I am not sure about which GFA office bearers
are also subscribed, but most certainly relevant topics raised here are
discussed by other areas of the GFA.

The decision to re-release the FAI video in DVD format is obviously the
right move as DVD is strangling VHS tape in the same way that iPods and
WMA/MP3 players are killing off CD and cassette tape players. The other
associated question is this - does the FAI video/DVD convey the message
that Australian gliding clubs actually WANT to portray ? I am led to
believe that much of the footage is taken from "Lucy Learns to Fly" (which
I have not yet seen) which was filmed circa 1995. I am interested to know
if people think it now looks dated after 10 years, and what, if any
additional footage needs to be included to modernise it and really "sell"
gliding in Australia ? Your thoughts on this matter are appreciated.

Some time ago GFA were carrying quite a stock of the videos, which did not
take off with clubs as well as was hoped. I am not aware of current stock
levels, but the numbers could be found out easily enough. Obviously before
any decision by GFA to stock the DVD could be made, they would need to get
some sort of commitment from clubs wanting to purchase it to avoid a repeat
of what happened with the VHS videos - maybe pre-ordering is the way to go
? Some items will always sell, like pilot log books and Basic Gliding
Knowledge books. Others could be left sitting on the shelf for a number of
years before selling out. My wife has just been through the same exercise
of trying to sort out appropriate stock levels with our kids school P&C
uniform shop - what an eye-opener that was !!!

FYI, the new GFA President is Daryl Connell. You can find out the other
office bearers from the 2005 AGM Minutes

http://www.gfa.org.au/Docs/minutes/AGM2005_minutes.pdf

(link straight off the GFA home page)

If I am not mistaken, a picture of outgoing president Bob Hall and incoming
president Daryl Connell (along with a profile IIRC) also appeared recently
in Soaring Australia magazine (which I just can't put my hands on at
present).

Regards

Jason
