Don't diss Gawler!

Having flown and instructed at Gawler for 10 years, it is a great place to fly
from. Close to the city (45 min drive from downtown Adelaide), good amenities,
good airspace arrangements, flying most days of the week, and keen members.
Good flying conditions can be had all year 'round (yes I've had some great
thermalling flights in the middle of winter in the unstable air following a
cold front. Yes and I have had wave flights (albeit not very high) at Gawler
too).

The sea breeze is really a non issue so long as you are aware of how it works
(in fact you can use the sea breeze front to gain height prior to final glide
if needs be). Often a strategy when out cross country is to remain north in the
good air and come home after the sea breeze has come through. The sea breeze
adds a level of complexity and challenge to cross country soaring from Gawler
and as others have said on this list, helps improve skill.

Like anywhere in Australia, gliding conditions can be crap for a week
(typically around competition week :-P ) despite a location's good reputation!
