Nigel and all

Do not fear, your content on RF Developments was not deleted. To paraphrase, the rumours of its demise are greatly exagerated !. Rather, it was repositioned on its own page, as it should be, slightly "wikified" and added to the Category of Instrumentation manufacturers. The Manufacturers category on the main page has some text which links to the Instrumentation manufacturers category, and the main page also has its own Instrumentation manufacturers link.

As I tried to educate everyone previously when the wiki was first announced, Categories are really not for content. Content belongs in Articles, and you can then assign the article to a Category (or to several categories).

Maybe other instrumentation manufacturers, or their local representatives, might like to add an Article about each brand they stock, and a bit about their own business (each in separate articles please !).

Both Gus Stewart (who hosts the site) and myself monitor content changes via an RSS feed Basically every change is noticed by us. If we see something in the wrong place, we'll move to correctly place it and categorise it, rather than letting the wiki grow completely wild. With a bit of basic pruning and grooming, hopefully the overall structure will be fairly logical.

As far as anonymous editing goes, I probably think we should require users to register and login to be able to edit. The gliding community is fairly small and close-knit, and it make some sense to know who is editing what, so that any discussion on article positioning, etc can be directed to the appropriate user. Longer term, we may be able to switch that off - Wikipedia is a large target for vandals, simply be cause it is such a well known site. Hopefully hackers don't consider the gliding community and WikiGlide to be worth bothering with. Wikipedia now requires logins for all people starting articles, after a couple of high profile acts of vandalism.

Gus might like to look at

http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Require_users_log_in_to_edit

and enable the requirement to have users login before they can edit.

Cheers

Jason Armistead
