I don't quite follow. The GPG attachment is not human readable, so I am not sure why you would have it as an attachment. Normally you will get a set of attachments from people, sometimes they are things like ICS files (user information like a calling card), GPG files (privacy and signatures), ICAL (calendar and events) and heaps more. Your mail program should either deal with them or you can ignore them.

Not really. GPG is a standard on the internet for mail protection that we use extensively.
