From what I know, the Benalla hangars are some just sort of chicken
shed. The "sideways" movement of gliders is accomplished by a piece of
iron angle set into the floor parallel to the glider's wingspan. The main
wheel of the glider is fitted into a small "carrier" which has a foldable
ramp for running the main wheel up into it, and a set of metal
rollers that run along the angle iron (in effect, a simply guideway) If I
remember correctly the tail wheel is also lifted up on a similar carrier.
Thus the gliders can be slid into the hangar sideways along the
tracks. Gliders are arranged with alternating directions of fuselages. It
is possible to remove any glider from the hangar with just one person - you
might have to slide a neighbouring glider out first, but the angle iron
pieces are long enough to accomplish that.
Canberra Gliding Club have a similar arrangement at their Bunyan airfield.
I'm sure that people from one of these two locations can provide photos of
how it all works better than I can describe it in words.
Cheers
Jason

I am looking for information on the "sideways hangars" set up at Benalla if
some one who has their glider so accommodated therein esp if an open class
glider, would be kind enough to write to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
