I agree it is easiest with new cable. Trying to get the loose strands of
old cable into a neat end is almost impossible IMHO.
Even with new cable it is not a job I would wish on my worst enemy.
It is only exceeded in frustration and sweat by replacing the brake
cable in an old Blanik where the two tubes which form the brake lever
pivot have frozen together, and can't be removed to get at the inboard
end of the cable.
Blaniks... Hah !!!!

It is the cables that go from the trim tab back into the fuselage.
There has to be an easier way of doing this ? Maybe I will have more luck
if I just go out and get some new cable although structually nothing is
wrong with the old stuff.
New cables come with a nice pointy end without any frayed strands.

Michael,
Is it the cables inside the fuselage or the bowden cables at the rear?
I have used compression/crimp fittings on the single strand steel wire
in the fuselage in the past.

Subject: [Aus-soaring] Blanik Maintenance - Bert Persons ?
Dear All
I am in the middle of the joy of trying to connect the trim
cables so I can reconnect the elevators of a Blanik.
I have seen experienced people using solder patience etc and
hunderds of hours to do this triffling job.
Has anyone got any experience/ideas that they can share with me.
Most peope will only do this job once every 5 or 10 years and
therefore there is little point in developing a much easier
way to do this.
I understand that Bert Persons did most of the maintenance on
the Blaniks for Bill Riley.
Does any one have his contact details, or any smarter ways of
doing this chore ?
