I agree, lobby hard and numbers are
required. I see real challenges in future years
getting tug pilots under current rules, even more difficult with additional
charges. It will cost a tug pilot $150 for a special doctor’s assessment,
$130 for CASA, about $500 for a flight review every 2 years [even though every
tow is observed by the whole of the local gliding club], not to mention the 30
hours of training, say $8,000. Why would one bother, why not more simply
just fly gliders? [But where will you get a tow?] I see a GFA executive task is to challenge
this issue, and more broadly the tug pilot training, testing, certification or
whatever. Do qualified glider pilots really need to be PPL/CPL and Xcountry
controlled airspace ratings or even raised in the RAA scheme. Also
you may be aware of moves in the A challenge one could add is ‘where
is the justification for medicals, how many accidents/fatalities can be proven
to have a medical root cause?’ That is the tenor of my response some
weeks ago to the CASA website. Lets not have an internal debate of one
liners, put your views in writing to CASA, or even your local MP. Alan Wilson But these are personal views. From:

to the new $130 CASA fee for processing your medical. Please, I urge you to fill in the online form and
submit it. Let them know how you feel about the processing fees of
$130 before they tax us out of existence. Andy Ps pls forward link to any PPLs or CPLs No virus found in this incoming message. |
