Hi all, The Grampians wave was working fine on Saturday with classic thermal entry. Had to punch forward more than 25 km into a 30 kt headwind from the first 5000' cloudbase climb near Ararat. Climbs went to 12,000 feet in the Mt Difficult wave, and over 20,000 feet in the Mt William wave, altitude limited only by windspeed at height. 55-60 kts at 17-18,000 feet, 70-75 kts at 20,000'. My PIK 20B's sink rate at the 75 kts required to maintain station at 20,000 feet was just equal to the wave lift - a no-win situation - and 75 kts with -20 degrees C outside very soon tells you where the cockpit drafts are.
