More from the boys in NZ Reg
HAD A GREAT DAy in the mountains today. It ended with an outlanding, however an outlaniding that is highlighted by the sharp but distictive squeak of tyre on tarmac, followed by an ultra smooth run up to some piano keys, could really be describded as a XC to an airport! we did 280ish km, narrowly beating todd and gavin to the outlanding strip after swapping leads and chasing him down all day. A few key descisions along the track making massive differences. Arriving on a ridge 300ft lower than todd who was established in a fantasic thermal left us scratching as todd pulled a 30minute lead on us. the scenery is amazing, flying in the lee of mt cook, covered in white is awe inspiring. running razor sharp ridges at low level gives you a real appreciation of how good this awesome sport of ours is. Turning back toward the ridge gives you a few moments where you contemplate rolling out and doing figure8's instead of completing the turn and your heart stops. In that moment is a real appreciaion of just how deadly this terrain could be (just hold the bank and pull it round!). Then landing on Twizel airstrip, with a postcard picture of Mt Cook down the centre line put the sprinkles on the ice cream, as 5 other gliders joined circuit and landed into this gliding heaven. amazing, james and todd. _______________________________________________ Aus-soaring mailing list [email protected] To check or change subscription details, visit: http://lists.internode.on.net/mailman/listinfo/aus-soaring
