Hi all,

Just a couple of comments on the current situation as regards
competition rules. In making these comments I am merely clarifying the
current situation. I am not attacking the situation and not defending
it - nor am I stating any form of official policy.

The Nationals Rules state that a parachute is mandatory equipment and
must be worn during flight. They do not say that the parachute must
have a current packing slip. I know that this rule has existed
unchanged for at least 20 years, and I assume it has been there in the
same form ever since parachutes were first required. I have never known
the lack of a currency requirement in the rules to be raised at a
Nationals pilots meeting.

Therefore, any competition requirements for packing currency come about
through an organisers decision to add a local rule or through the
decision of a State Association to add that rule in their own
jurisdiction. I have no idea when that started, except that it seems to
have become common in the last 2-3 years.

I have flown at quite a few competitions which required a current
packing slip as part of the documentation. I have personally always had
one when arriving at a competition. I have yet to have anyone ask to
see it.

Cheers

Tim

The National Parachutes we sell are good for up to 8 months between
repacks in the absence of any regulatory requirement for a shorter
period.
