Very well put Peter. I had never heard of the scheme (but I am fortunate to
live in an area where good service is available), prior to your post. A
quick look at the web site you listed showed that on a 36 month contract
there were no additional costs (provided you did not exceed your download
limit), other than the monthly fee, and on an 18 month contract only a $200
setup fee. In either case it looked like you saved about $3000 on the
non-subsidized costs. What a bargain! Is this yet another example of one of
those well kept Govt. secrets?

Subject: [Aus-soaring] Slow dial-up or broadband- your choice

Inspite of the Government & Oppositions pre election rantings and promises
for broadband every where, It is available to everyone in Australia now. If
you can't get ISDN or ADSL on your phone line you are eligible for the
Government grant for a satellite connection @ $29-95/ month no more to pay
(IE the Gov. pays the upfront cost). Be quick as I am not sure how much
longer the subsidy will be available, but I have had mine installed for 2
years now. with Active8.

There is no excuse now to say you can only have slow dial-up any more.

Go to HYPERLINK "http://www.apn.net.au"www.apn.net.au there are other
companies in the act too you may find. Bordernet, or the Elders/Optus, but
I only know of Active 8 (Australian Private Networks)

Don't complain about slow dial up again!!!!

I don't know what you are all talking about.

Sad for those of us who only get dial up at 19kbps and nothing better is
available.??????????

Video!!! Leave the PC on and go and do a day's work in the paddock or
shed, then come back and look at it.

That does'nt work either as your ISP shuts you down for (in)activity(?)
reasons.

Sheesh!!! I am only 30km from the Adelaide CBD, an inner suburb in other Oz
cities.

Is Adelaide really only half an hour behind eastern Oz or something more?

No comments MB please :-)
