Today was the official practise day but the weather was not cooperative and a no contest day was declared quite early.
The pilots briefing was very informal and held out on the Club House lawn (dust bowl) which was novel and certainly in contrast to the usual very formal briefings at other gliding contests I have attended. The club did 10 flights 7 were passengers. The event was formally opened in the evening by the senior Junior Heath Ledger and I must say his opening speech was excellent. The sponsors in kind and financial were mentioned. Internode ISP for Internet support etc, Stark Aviation for a supply of AV gas, OAMPS for insurance facilities, SAGA for financial assistance in running the event and the ASC for the use of its facilities,Tugs and assistance in preparation of the event. Geoff Wood Addressed the gathering of over 50 people as did the local State Government member Tony Piccolo. Sue Martin a former ASC member but later a Waikerie member and numerous Gliding World Record holder gave a motivative talk to the gathered pilots on Strategies they could use to win this contest. I have known Sue from when she started Gliding but was astounded at her Gliding achievements on the international scene. After the speeches the gathering the group were invited to partake in a buffet of prepared finger food prepared by Colleen Carol and Daisy. Thanks Ladies. The noise was getting louder from the Juke Box etc as Colleen and I left at 9:30. The briefing is at 0900 tomorrow with the hope of a flying day. We are expecting a large crowed to the club in the morning as the Australia Junior Gliding Club is offering two sponsored gliding scholarships which cannot be claimed if the applicants are not in attendance on the field. Sixty people have applied. I will be posting comments on the event on the Joey Glide web site from tomorrow after briefing Regards Rob Moore 08 82588026 home 0412 055 888 mobile _______________________________________________ Aus-soaring mailing list [email protected] To check or change subscription details, visit: http://lists.internode.on.net/mailman/listinfo/aus-soaring
