On the patents issue, I read in New Scientist that if a patent is applied for, and the invention is of sig government interest, they can effectively refuse to grant the patent. Also prevent you marketing the product, and throw you in jail if you if you publicise the invention. They effectively steal your invention, also offer no compensation. This may apply only to the US but it was an alarming article.
