I remember before I was enlightened, there was a cigarette ad' where a glider pulled into full climb on the winch as the stirring music swelled and 'Join the Escort Club' appeared under its wings as two very handsome and healthy persons lit up a cigarette in the foreground.
Little did I know that due to the subliminal effects of this type of advertising I was later to become a gliding tragic. This image must have lodged deep in my brain for I found in later years that I was compelled to do my training in this very aircraft. Thankfully this sort of advertising is now outlawed but too late for me.
