Same law applies in NSW - see it being broken every day but I have never seen it
being enforced. SDF _____ From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Christopher Mc Donnell Sent: Tuesday, 25 March 2008 2:19 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [Aus-soaring] Glider Trailers The RAA (SA's automobile club) recently advised of the following Australian Road Rule, of which I was not aware, and perhaps others also. It was for the benefit of boat and caravan towers prior to Easter getaways but would include glider towing combinations which would probably always exceed 7.5 metres. Below the Road Rule is an extract from the Tasmanian regs (reg 18) which does not seem to have followed the mainland State regs, which I assume have all followed Victoria's (SA's did). Seems the Tasmanians are more cautious than the mainlanders & have bigger gliders :-). The advices on towing gliders on the national association's website do not seem to have been reviewed for a few years so I hope the below is of some help. Chris McDonnell Keeping a minimum distance between long vehicles 127 Keeping a minimum distance between long vehicles (1) The driver of a long vehicle must drive at least the required minimum distance behind another long vehicle travelling in front of the driver, unless the driver is: (a) driving on a multi-lane road or any length of road in a built-up area, or (b) overtaking. Penalty: Offence provision. Note: "Built-up area", "length" of road, "multi-lane road" and "overtake" are defined in the dictionary. (2) In this rule: "long vehicle" means a vehicle that, together with any load or projection, is 7.5 metres long, or longer. Note: "Vehicle" includes a combination-see rule 15 (d). "required minimum distance" means: (a) for a long vehicle in a road train area-200 metres or, if another law of this jurisdiction provides another distance for the area, that distance, or (b) for a long vehicle in another area-60 metres or, if another law of this jurisdiction provides another distance for the area, that distance. "road train" means a combination that is a road train for the Australian Road Rules under another law of this jurisdiction. Note: "Combination" is defined in the dictionary. "road train area" means an area where, under another law of this jurisdiction, road trains may be driven. _____ VEHICLE AND TRAFFIC (VEHICLE OPERATIONS) NOTICE 2006 - REG 18 18.
