Differential oil smell is worse than diesel.
It seems to linger on your body & work clothes for days .

  2008/5/13 Terry Neumann <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:

One problem with diesel fuel is that it is almost unavoidably messy. It
also has a rather unpleasant smell which can be yours to enjoy for the rest of
your day's activities after a tank fill. Because it is not very volatile at
normal temperatures - if at all - traces of it remain wherever it spills. It's
almost always on the handling parts of fuelling nozzles, on the tarmac
alongside of the pump where someone overfilled their tank earlier, and it
sticks to your hands and footwear. When you reach for your wallet at the
checkout, it's transferred to your coat/trousers and credit card and the stuff
on your shoes will be rubbed off on the floor of your vehicle. Any leak or
spillage on the vehicle will attract and retain dust like you wouldn't believe.

I get over this to some degree by keeping a pair of rubber gloves in the
back of my diesel ute which I use for the hands-on part of the service station
visit. Quaint perhaps but it seems to alleviate most of the residue problems.

I'm in the "switch (passenger) car" process at the present. Diesel is off
the short list partly because of this issue, but also because neither of the
cars on the short list (Imprezza & Lancer) are available in a diesel option.
The (diesel) ute will remain on the payroll for the foreseeable future.

    FWIW
    Terry
