Hello, It's Anne, your friendly Regional Development Officer, inviting you to the National Gliding Seminar and AGM that we're lucky enough to be hosting this year! Be warned: You won't see this fantastic event back in Adelaide for at least another three years! So what is it exactly? It's a whole day seminar that will be held at the Comfort Hotel (North Terrace) on Saturday 6th September. It will be fully catered and feature local gliding personalities as well as guys from New Zealand and the USA. You can choose to come to the day seminar or dinner or both, all for very cheap rates! Here's what to expect at the day seminar (9am-6pm): ------------------------------------ WORLD GLIDING CHAMPIONSHIPS HELD IN ITALY THIS YEAR Our three Australian representatives (Terry Cubley, Peter Temple and Graham Parker) will talk about their no doubt mind-blowing experiences. GLIDING SIMULATION There will be two simulators on display and we'll hear how they were put together from their designers, Tom Wilksch and Ian Linke. We should be able to sit in the cockpits and have a go! GLIDING INSTRUMENTATION John Wharington, an expert with XCSoar, will be coming over from Melbourne to talk about the latest and greatest in gliding instrumentation. JET POWERED GLIDER Allen Hudson's ASW20 has been given jet power! The fuselage will be on display and the jets will be fired up (if we can get away with it ;). We'll hear all about it from Allen. EINAR ENEVOLDSON A man who has flown over 50000ft in a glider! Amazing. Einar also worked with NASA as a research pilot for 18 years. ------------------------------------ During the three-course dinner we'll hear from GAVIN WILLS who runs a mountain flying school in the New Zealand Alps. Drinks will also be on the GFA's friendly insurance broker, OAMPS :) This is an excellent opportunity to get absorbed in what this great sport has to offer and to socialise with your gliding friends.
