Robert,

Remove the batteries prior to disposal OR take to Battery World
as per AMSA's instructions/arrangements,

links attached.

We must chase down at least one ELT/EPIRB/PLB that has activated following
being crushed at the waste disposal facilities

which is a complete waste of money and valuable recourses.

Subject: [Aus-soaring] How to dispose of an EPIRB - without alerting
SARservices?

Hi folks

I have recently purchases an ELT to replace my EPIRB as that system is being
switched on if Feb 2009. I now have a perfectly functional EPIRB that I need
to dispose of.

Pretty obviously, tossing this into the rubbish would not be a good idea - I
can just see the SAR services homing in on a Brisbane rubbish truck as it
goes its merry way around the suburbs!

Does anyone know how one is supposed to safely dispose of these?
