Heck,
Who needs parachutes? Just strap skateboards to chest and knees and
flare for landing on a smooth runway. L/D doesn't appear to be any
worse than an F104 with windmilling engine, the X15 or the NASA
Lifting bodies. They've all been successfully landed lots of times. I
believe one guy even did it twice on the F104.
