Spot tracking devices have been installed in all gliders in Standard class for Day 3, Friday 16 January 2009, of the Australian Multi Class Nationals being held at Benalla, Victoria. Yesterday, Thursday 15 January, was a no fly day as weather conditions were not soarable. There are 19 gliders in Standard class - all gliders have a Spot allocated. Start gates for each class open 20 minutes after last launch of that class. The task is an AAT (Assigned Area Task) of 3 hours duration for all classes in the comp The task is: Benalla Corowa - 30 kilometre radius area Murchison East - 30 kilometre radius area Peechelba East - 15 kilometre radius area Glenrowan - 15 kilometre radius area Benalla Minimum distance is 196 kilometres; Maximum distance is 512 kilometres. The weather conditions make task setting difficult today. We are influenced by south westerly to south winds bringing cooler air into the area. The forecast is a blue day, temperature 28C in Benalla. Thermal strengths should be an average of 3-4knots distorted thermals over the task. Heights forecast are approximately 5,000 feet. Wind is currently south westerly at 12-15knots to change in the late afternoon to more southerly and perhaps decreasing in strength. Thermals should cut off at about 5:30pm given the southern influence of the wind. A challenging day for pilots. Some gliders have private spots installed so you may see one or two glider in the Open and 18M tracking pages. No spots are in the 15 metre class.
