Subject: [igc-discuss] CHILEAN GRAND PRIX ACCIDENT
Date: Wed, 21 Jan 2009 19:16:55 -0300

Dear friends,

We have been extremely excited about the Qualifying Grand Prix in Chile from
January 17th to 25th, 2009 which is under progress.

During the fourth race (today), 30 minutes before the start, we had the
terrible news that one of our pilots. Mauricio Pérez (Chile) had crashed.

The area involved is the mountains, is a very easy and well known to all
pilots including Mauricio who had lots of experience there.

He had 820 hours, Chilean Champion on 2007 and son of Carlos Pérez who is
very well known as glider pilot in Chile. On 2007, Mauricio with his father
and his brother, did a double cross in the Andes from Santiago (Chile) –
Mendoza (Argentina) – Santiago (Chile). It was a great challenge.

Investigation is under progress.

We are all sad at the QGP but as we know, the show must go on.

Best Regards,

René Vidal
