I don't suppose there is much difference having 50 kgs of batteries or 50 kgs of solo motor (or Wankel for that matter) up your date. (50 kgs of feathers would be different). Mostly however, SLG motors don't enter the cockpit unless absolutely necessary, and by then the pilot has probably left the building, so to speak. Via the NOAH ejektion seat. Perhaps the most persuasive argument is the fact that the cells would be in one block and easy to change when the technology changes, unlike batteries stuffed into wings.
