I like the Stanwell top landing in the Vintage video! The final 'California'
segment was shot at Arvin Gliderport, a now defunct site between Tehachapi (my
home) and Arvin. Bear Mountain, a good hang gliding site is in the background.
More video: A while ago there was a thread on Helmut's Run. Here's an
unedited YouTube video a couple of friends made doing a similar run down Mount
Whitney in a Duo Discus.

Or search YouTube for 'Mt Whitney Run'. That day I'd wondered why they
broadcast: "Duo, Whitney, 14,000" and shortly: "Duo, Whitney Portal, 9000."
The final Hilton Cup camp starts this weekend. Walt Rogers was preparing his
glider to go after we flew yesterday. We had reasonable flights, 300k or so.
Cloud bases were at
most 11,000... but in the area of 14,000' peaks! I turned over the 10,000'
Walt's Point hang glider launch above Lone Pine.Saw a few trees and
rocks quite close.
The ex- VH-VJS is back in action in the USA. The new owner's 4th flight in it
was the practice day at the Nationals. Only 10 entrants in Open and even more
shocking, 10 in Standard!
Macintosh, Linux or Windows?
Holden, Toyota, or Ford?
Schleicher, Schempp....
Christianity, Judaism, none of em...
All the same. Whatever works for you.
Jim
