The South Australian Gliding Association, as part of its 2009 AGM, held its club development meet at Waikerie on August 15. The format was arranged by SA RDO Ann Philcox, and Maurice Little GFA Chair Dev Cmmttee attended and led the discussion topics.

Representatives for most clubs in the region participated (only some distant clubs didn't have representatives there).

I would suggest that the format is worthwhile in regions across Australia (as I understand is intended, such as the NSWGA Presidents' meeting)

South Australia at present has 2 clubs which meets the assessed minimum strength requirement (35 members+) to do all the jobs envisaged need to be done to
- retain existing members
- maximise positive response to the club by public looking at the sport.

Circulars were handed out seeking information flow back to the RDO on what clubs are doing, with queries on why not do some of the suggested things.

The knowledge about what to do is somewhat limited, being applicable to those clubs with the resource depth noted above.

South Australia has a majority of clubs with single digit membership numbers. Not only is there a question of someone/anyone to do the wide array of tasks; but that those members are the ones who have already done their stint previously. The concern is that should they do another stint, grow the club membership, then to only have the club lose members as soon as they retire a second time from doing all the work.

We are therefore a long way from a cohesive program of arresting the decline in the sport's numbers.
