Interesting, personally I find using a moving map GPS/PDA less distracting than
paper maps and either using a mechanical (Plastic circle over the map type) or
B24 style final glide computer with its plethora of knobs and switches. There
is zero pilot input required for final glide indication on all the programs
used on PDA etc. The same applies to modern vario/nav computers.
No to mention using 1 or 2 cameras at each turnpoint!
It should be possible to setup any decent PDA program so you never need to
touch it in flight, with the exception of arming for a task start or aborting
task to return home, and altering circle radius for comp fliers.
I have never needed to do anything other than those 2 things myself, and would
advise most strongly against attempting any configuration whilst in flight.
