Vale Don Scott
[B]Those of you with a history from Qld
Air Training Corps
and in particular gliding operations at Kingaroy will remember this man
as a gentleman in the truest sense of the word. The following advised by
Peter Sinclair this evening.
Hi All,
It is with a heavy heart, I need to inform you all that Don Scott Passed
away today at approximately 1830 EST.
He had been quite ill for the past week or so and was admitted to
Sunnybank Pvt Hospital in Brisbane, where he was well looked after.
He passed peacefully and free of pain.
His wishes were to be cremated and then to have a memorial service at a
later date (possibly 4-6 weeks), to allow for people to attend. Details
of both will be forwarded as soon as they become available.
TO YOU DON:-
Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds, — and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of — wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air. . . .
Up, up the long, delirious burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or ever eagle flew —
And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.
— John Gillespie Magee, Jr
