Did I retain most of it even shortly after the exams? NO.
Was I able to apply it all in practice at the time? NO.
Was I interested to apply it all in practice at the time? NO.
Do I think all of it was abolutely necessary to make me a reasonably
safe glider pilot? NO, only a relatively small subset initially but
increasingly more as I progressed to flying longer distances and
occasionally in controlled airspace.
Am I glad it was all shoved down my throat at the time? In hindsight
MAYBE - it made (re)learning a little easier.
Would I like to see the insanely bureaucratic European system
creeping into Australian recreational aviation? NOOOOOOO!!!
Do I believe the "GFA system" can be improved and should cater for
glider pilots wanting to fly overseas including Europe? YES,
definitely. The basic idea of the GPC is a step in the right direction
in my opinion but I believe its intoduction was premature and in a
half-backed state. I am afraid politics and impatience got in the way
of real progress unfortunately (I would really love to be proven wrong
on both these statements! - Are there initial figures/experiences yet?
Anybody?)
