So here, in no particular order are advertised in the 2009-2010 WIDOLA: Aériane Swift Light PAS (Electric) Aerola Alatus M with Electravia (Electric) Air Energy AE1 Silent (Electric) Alisport Silent Club (Electric) Apis M (Electric) Pipistrel Taurus Electro (Electric) Alisport Silent Glider E-M (Electric) Alisport Silent (Jet) Sparrowhawk EL (Electric) HPH Glasflugel 304 (Jet) Jonkers JSI (Jet) DG 1001 TE (Electric) Lange Antares 20E S-H Arcus Lange (Electric) Most of these gliders claim better than 40:1. Most claim to be true self launchers with at least three launches to 2000' (electric). Some are two seaters. Most have been made for several years. Most cost less than $75,000 in fact, some cost far less. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Only a handful are available in Australia. Surely, unless the gliding movement looks at alternative ideas (and these may be electric, jet, ultralight, foot launching, experimental etc.) we're walking away from the future. You can afford an Arcus, but what about the people who cannot? I've seen Silent gliders fly and they're very impressive. For the money, they are incredible. don't own any of these types. I did the expected thing and bought something German, however I'm at least aware that there are alternatives.
