As used by the CD’s in the past..

“G’day RaceFans!”

Since JG 2010, and as the 2011/12 (season) CD of JG, I have been quietly been
making phone calls – but nothing too serious just yet. Now that the new year
has started and people are starting to get back to their normal lives, I
thought it was about time I got stuck into the preparations for the next
JoeyGlide!! Thought I’d kick it off with the below :)

For JG to be a thriving success as it has been in the past, I need everyone to
promote it as much as they can within their clubs. For the seniors who have the
thoughts of “don't worry, we’ll look after our own juniors”, please get the
word out there too! As this will only get your juniors more enthused to fly
more at your home club in the future, bring more of their friends out, provide
a healthy competitiveness to race their mates to their goals for future JG’s,
etc

Though what I should’ve started with is the objective of JG!
1st – HAVE A SAFE COMPETITION!
2nd – HAVE A FUN COMPETITION!
3rd – DECLARE A WINNER and encourage others to improve themselves!
4th – REFER TO the 2nd objective :)

Here we go..

At the pilots meeting in Waikerie, we decided to do a survey to find out what
is the best time of year to hold JG to get maximum entries. Something to note
was the strong desire to hold the competition in Queensland for the first time
in JG's history. The dates will be announced no later than the end of March,
but most likely sooner! To select the competition dates, as I see it will be a
very simple one this year. Why? I did a ring around and this is what I found
out...

*School and Universities all finish up between mid to late November.
*Universities go back to work in late Feb. However there wasn't even a thought
for this time of year at the pilots meeting. On a side note for this one, if
it were to be in FEB then it'd have to be in a southern state as I see it - as
the storms happen like clockwork @ 4pm in QLD at that time of year.
*The 50th multi-class nationals and the club class nationals has been proposed
to be held in JAN 2012
*Generally club camps happen after Christmas and over the new year period. So
I think that the week after xmas is out due to a short period available, family
time and other helping hands will be harder to come by due to their
commitments. Glider availability maybe harder too as it'll be close to the
senior nationals.

My thoughts for competition dates: The first or second week of December 2011
is the go! For me personally, my vote would be for (Option 3) the 2nd week of
December. Why? It gives the university students time to save for 2-3wks, and
wind down from a big year. The 2nd week also allows for practice the week
prior :).

To save my head from getting a tumour with Nokia imprinted on it, can as many
people under 30 give me their opinions on the dates that they'd like from the
list below (as I WILL call if I can't cross you off the list here).. I would
also love to hear from the over 30's as well, as your input is priceless in
generating more thought from experience.

Option 1: 27th NOV - 3rd DEC 2011
Option 2: 4-10th DEC 2011
Option 3: 11-17th DEC 2011
Option 4: Sometime in FEB 2012

I’m all new to this CD role, so if there’s any other thoughts on dates (not
venue yet!) then I’d be keen to hear your views.

Looking forward to your replies!!
