Robert,
do you have any news about your club facilities? Are they safe?
I am waiting for more information - may have some later today. As far as
I know...
1. Water was last seen about 0.6m below the hangars and the water
level nearby has fallen since then. I am not yet sure if water
entered the hangars...but we are hoping that it didn't.
2. The trailer park was well under and there will be much work to be
done making things good (I and others will have to clean black mud
out - again).
3. Water was seen close to the club house - it's not yet clear if the
water entered the briefing room (the lowest part of the club house).
4. As water was higher this time than the Dec 27 event, it's pretty
clear that the private caravans will have been flooded again.
5. The power is restored and the weather station/webcam is operating
again - it shows the puddle in front of the club house drying out,
but you can't see any of the buildings as it is focused on the
airfield (and not remotely controllable).
The problem is that the road into the club (Mason Rd) is cut - with a
huge hole (about 4m across and 1m or more deep) where the water has
completely gouged away the road. The hole is full of (flowing) water and
until it's filled, no-one can get in our out. Not that it matters as
yet, because the Warrego highway is cut at Jondaryan (on both sides and
the town is cut off and running out of supplies). The road is also cut
multiple times below the Toowoomba range. Of course, the floods in
Brisbane and Ipswich are rising (peak expected in Brisbane at 4am
tomorrow) and we would be foolish to try and get anywhere away from our
houses. I am expecting friends who live along the river to evacuate to
us today (we live on top of a hill).
It's going to be quite some time before anyone in Brisbane gets out tp
the club (other than by air and the surface would still be too wet to
land on anyway).
I am hoping that a friend will be able to walk into the club today and
give me a report, but people up there are coping with their own flood
disaster and the safety/security of our toys is somewhat down the
priority list as you would expect.
