Possible but unlikely. These things get painted up a little if it's a quiet news day. I expect someone will blame it on global warming =-O (TIC just in case someone believes that ). HF radio communications _can_ be disrupted - I think all of us are on VHF anyway so there's no foreseeable problems there. Earlier today HF signals from USA on the 20 metre amateur band were very good, but on the long path. That sort of thing that can happen too. Solar flares can improve HF radio propagation conditions as well as stuff them. I spoke to a bloke in Denver for a few minutes with very good signal reports each way.
