Still hoping that sharing local wave information in Australia can promote
long XC wave flights along the Great Dividing Range. There was concern
expressed about air traffic. The slice of Class A and Restricted airspace that
this flight was cleared into probably sees as much traffic as all of Australia.
The 2045-point flight got Gordon into the top 100 on the World OLC, with only
three flights logged!
Replaying the flight in SeeYou, I'm sure they were not happy with conditions
around Lee Vining. The groveling around the East side of Mono Lake and past the
Hilton Ranch on the fourth leg was likely what pushed the flight beyond sunset.
Gordon once wore the instrument panel from his Kestrel during a wave flight
outlanding at Lee Vining.
Jim Payne thinks that Sunday 24th looks good along the Sierras. The HRRR
(High
Resolution Rapid Refresh) model linked below supports it... But it's going to
be
hard to beat Gordon's distance. Jim may opt for a speed task.
