XCSoar is light years ahead of the custom Altair version from 2 years ago. It
still runs on Altair of course, and that is what I use in my glider - amazing
visibility and now better software.

BUT... if I was recommending to someone, I would say a 5" Android tablet with
tansflective screen and XCSoar. Not only in my opinion is this superior to any
of the others for visibility and function, it is also a fraction of the price
of any of the competition. Dell streak 5" is excellent, but I don't believe
currently made, a few second hand around though for few hundred dollars on ebay.

Of course the above is not a Vario, just the computer - you still need to
connect to something, but the range of things you can connect to from just a
Flarm up to Vega and every other vario with a serial port out there is huge.
With an IOIO card you can have multiple (up to 4 I think) serial ports and
other hardware inputs (e.g. flaps, button on your grib, etc) all going into the
Android Tablet.
