I had a similar problem accessing a trace after doing a altitude calibration on a volkslogger. No GPS signal obviously whilst in the calibration chamber.
Strepla wouldn't recognise the trace saying that nothing was on the logger.
Tried SeeYou and it worked perfectly.

So maybe try another download program.

Strepla has a problem with just altitude traces. I've been unable to find a switch to enable looking at these. All IGC loggers are meant to record as barographs in the absence of GPS signals. You can always look at an IGC file with a text editor. The B record decode is in the FR specs on the FAI/IGC website. Basically time lat long Pressure alt. GPS altitude and a fix accuracy number. Take a look at a record and it will make sense. The header contains some interesting information also.

Some cautions when looking at FR records:

When looking at short time interval events you need to be aware of any filtering done by the FR before the record is stored. Both pressure and GPS records may be filtered although more recent FRs are better in this regard. I know of one investigation which was a complete stuff up because this was ignored.
