Ken,
Releases other than TOST and Blanik Nose Releases are overcentre tested in
accordance with AD293. This requires testing in situ.
Testing of these releases requires use of the old style ("steel stallion")
release testers which are owned by each GFA region.
Testing of the belly release requires the back release cage to be wedged
closed during the overcentre test. The test tool lets go with considerable
energy when the release is pulled, especially at higher hook loads.
Have fun.

Subject: [Aus-soaring] Release tester
Can anyone on the list point me to a design for a release tester? (That is
to say a device which can safely apply a load on the tow hook up to about
600 daN without removing the hook from the glider)
My Googling skills seem to have failed me
Ken
