Hi Patch, I agree with your comments on misconceptions regarding glue failure etc in the natural composite machines. Its unfortunate that unless you speak out these misconceptions ( structual and performance) are passed on to the newer generation of pilots as facts and it still amuses me when they are amazed we fly vintage and can actually go cross country in them. Get the usual "white ants holding hands " comments of course, usually in jest. Of interest some of the newer wooden homebuilts are actually glued with epoxy but are tarred and feathered with the same brush so to speak. There is some old (and young) dangerous stuff in the air , usually gripping the stick though. I like the idea Adam has floated and going even futher with an unofficial best for various types may appeal to owners . A few years ago when i had the T31 active i always wanted to beat what i believe was its unofficial record in Aus which was 98klm set at a comp (possibly interservice) years ago. Not even sure where this info came from or if accurate, maybe someone in this group can recall.i think they even made canopies to increase the performance?? Much easier to log these days with the small ,light and portable loggers available. Sounds like a task for GDB one day?? Maybe downwind heh. Hope to get down and visit musuem one day cheers laurie
