There is a new category of records controlled by the IGC known as
"Continental Records" .

Australia is in the "Australia / Oceania region".

These do not replace World Records, but they give pilots an opportunity to
do the best flight in their region, rather than the relatively unattainable
best flight in the World, perhaps in regions where few pilots ever get the
chance to fly.

>>

As with World Records, the Observer has to have an extra level of approval
by GFA. Please ask me or Beryl how to obtain this approval. A claim using an
OO who isn't on this list will be rejected by FAI. This has already happened
to a pilot flying a continental record in Spain.

>>

Allan Barnes has made a good start with a flight on 25/11/12 in his LS8/15m,
from Narromine, claiming 4 Continental Records:

Triangle distance 1006.40 Km;

Free triangle distance 1018.90 Km;

Distance using up to three turn points 1006.40 Km;

Free distance using up to 3 turn points 1020.60 Km.

To find the Continental Records go to www.fai.org/igc-documents

Click on Sporting Code and Gliding Documents, then click on Sporting Code
Section 3, and you will see it in the list that opens.
