Gentlemen,

Would it not be sensible to establish exactly what CAA is considering by way of controlled airspace changes before rushing off and protesting about it. Derek makes it sound as if Mt Cook is the wave soaring capital of NZ if not the world. Having flown gliders in that immediate vicinity and experienced the extremely high traffic density (largely from choppers and GA fixed wings) I personally would welcome some form of airspace control. Lets get the facts first guys.

The New Zealand CAA is considering a proposal to introduce controlled airspace over Mount Cook.

This are is probably unique as the only easily accessible uncontrolled wave soaring site in the world

I would encourage all Australian pilots to email a protest to <mailto:[email protected]>[email protected] and copy the letter to trevor.mollard at gmail.com

The closing date for correspondence is Jan 31st, so time is of the essence
