I think I'd buy an airline ticket to Taiwan and visit and see one running on an instrumented bench before committing and find out how many hours on the high time engine and how many sold.

Horace has been around for quite a while but I don't know how many engines he's actually sold. There's nothing like having a track record in the micro turbine business which is full of blue sky operators who will claim all sorts of things but never deliver. I'm not saying Horace is like this but some people are.

In the R/C model derived engines AMT Jets has a consistently good reputation with the only comments being that they are a little heavier than others and cost a bit more. They have a 40 Kg engine called the Titan and an 80Kg engine called the Nike which definitely exists and is being sold in some numbers. BF Turbine in Germany is another new manufacturer but has a track record of being derived from the Behotec turbines. Their 30 Kg engines looks interesting and reports I've seen are that it is very good. They are about to release a 50Kg thrust turbine too.

When planning what thrust you need for a glider figure on a thrust/weight of 0.14 or so. So for a 500Kg glider you need 70 Kg thrust but this should be only 70 to 80% of the turbines max rating so you need an engine with a thrust of 88 to 100Kg.

If you are serious give me a call. I've got a performance spreadsheet that is a work in progress which will calculate takeoff distance, rate of climb etc.

We are considering purchase of a Jet Beetle H150 Turbine Engine. Does any one know of any such engines in use currently, or of any problems encountered?
