Thanks Adam ... excellent information. Would make a great article for GA.

G. Dale makes the point in his coaching lectures that you can only really
work on one or two things at the one time in seeking to improve, and you
have to work on the thing which is likely to provide the best return in
terms of improved cross-county speed. So analysis should facilitate
identification of the weakest link.

The ability to access traces for all pilots in a comp from Soaring Spot
should be a great benefit, especially in unfamiliar conditions. Maybe each
pilot could have a dedicated analyst who could do all this work from the
comfort of their own homes ... no need to travel anywhere.

At the recent Keepit Regatta, Jacques Graells gave an excellent presentation
where he compared two traces from a day's comp at the Nationals. He compared
the flight of Tom Claffey (who won the day) with that of Dave Shorter (who
was not too far behind). The significant difference was start height where
Tom had found wave near the start point, and worked a higher height band for
the entire flight. A couple of surprising facts emerged ... Dave's
thermalling had been 100% to the right (which surprised him too although
someone commented that David Jansen only thermals to the right !).
