G'day all,

Just throwing around ideas, nothing more. This isn't a rumor, nor what's
happening. Just canvassing the floor. This e-mail is targeting the
competition/XC pilot though.

World comps, Nationals, State Comps, Fun comps/gatherings, training/coaching
weeks, your own flying adventures/aspirations, family/holidays - don't they all
take a tone of time & commitment?!

With the Sports (note: I didn't say club) class nationals being flown as a wet
class now, it seems as though they're trying to justify keeping it. I
personally think it needs to be axed, or at least given zero weight in the team
selection points. Alternatively, take it out & restructure the nationals to
align with the WGC & EGC - ie, Club, STD, 20m; and 15m, 18m, Open.

This is where my idea was born from.

Why not split the two current nationals up as they are now & make one a
national team selection comp; & the other the Australian Nationals.

The team selection competition: could have the following classes; Club, 15m
(wingspan) & Open (everything else!). Team (pairs only) flying should be
allowed if they desire, so we can gain experience in this important skill for
international competitions. Select the teams as we have been doing now, 40:60 -
though select the top four (8 pilots total) from 15m & Open Class, then assign
these pilots to their best team mate & class for their experience (the way the
polish do it atm). Naturally Club only takes the top two pilots.

The other beauty of this, we can select our pilots sooner - & give them all
more time to prepare as a team. Eg, 3 months between our two selection
nationals atm. I still don't know who'll be my team mate in Finland.

The Australian Nationals: For those who don't care about international
selection, but want to be the national champion, or are fortunate enough to
have more time off to do both comps! Run as four classes, Club, STD, 15m, 18m,
Open. No team flying, nationals would run as it is now.

The beauty of the above idea. I for one just want to make the Australian teams
as priority one. So I'd only need to spend 2wks annual leave here. This would
then allow me to do a multiple of things in my remaining 2wks: squad week, do a
coaching event, long distance week, international comp, two state comps or the
other nationals. Winning!

What do you think?

Cheers,
WPP
