Your CFI is wrong. The fact that barely any glider pilots possess ASICs and most people look the other way (top notch adherence to procedures by literally everyone involved, there!) doesn't remove the strict requirement to hold one whilst operating out of security controlled airports. (such as, for example, YBTH, if I'm reading my ERSA correctly) - mark
