I agree with that Mike. I will write to the minister, for what that is worth.

Thanks, Peter. Who knows what this will be worth but at least you have had your say and nobody can accuse you of not saying anything.

This is a new Minister who probably has no interest in making his predecessor look good and the current sport aviation push within CASA seems to have come as a result at least partly of the crash of the ultralight into the ferris wheel at Old Bar airport near Taree a couple of years ago. Search ATSB website for 'ferris wheel" and you will get the preliminary report. Interesting reading.

Anyone supporting Part 149 in a submission may want to search the CASA website for this. It seems there may have to be another NPRM issued before this can be progressed as the last was in 2007. It isn't clear but it seems Part 103 might need to be finalised first.

I'd also question if it is proper that CASA sport aviation being staffed by recent former RAAus employees and/or board members. RAAus I'm told is now requiring employees to sign contracts stating they won't seek work with CASA for 2 years after ceasing employment at RAAus. Likewise why are people who are members of recreational aviation organisations in charge of rule changes at CASA that will affect these organisations. This isn't a good look.

Recent GFA rulemaking could make you question whether GFA running gliding instead of CASA is a good thing. People doing glider maintenance professionally have recently been stood over to agree to a set of rules based on the CASA workshop requirements. BTW at least one was told while protesting this "This is not a democracy" and told "comply or get out". Nice. These are the same rules that have the light aircraft maintenance industry up in arms which is one of the reasons for the enquiry into aviation regulation.

Be careful what you wish for, you might get it.

Mike
