I notice many pilots remove the bolt/nut fitting from the 9 pin D on the
model 20 or 302 vario in order to use a USB to serial adapter. I would
suggest the use of extension 9pin D M and F lead (comes with instrument
when bought) which fits perfectly with the bolt/nut fitting in place

Removing these means puts extra strain on the soldering internally and
recently the little plate came off and was then put on upside down (yes it
does fit). The plug would not fit in and was send in for repair!!!!

Just reminder next time powering up Model 20 READ the back up battery
voltage and if below 2.7v then buy a new 3volt cell at Wollies, power up
unit, remove cover/aerial and slide out old battery and slide in new one
and you will be OK for another 8 years. The unit looses seal if voltage is
less than 2 volt. Some of these units are now 20 years old!!!

If you do not understand what I mean by DB9 connector the best phone me.
