Hi All,
Pilot Handling Notes for most gliders are too polite when advising pilots to
ensure flaps are in correct position when extending dive brakes at high speed,
as in a spiral dive. What they should say is, “change to negative flap before
extending dive brakes at high speed. If you don’t, a high chance you will rip
the wings off” Gliders using positive flap in a thermal and then spinning is
when this situation is most likely to arise.
