Ian's passing is a sad loss to gliding and the world in general. Sandy and I are glad to have known him and to have experienced his generosity of spirit and his zest for life. He contributed a great deal.
In their time of sadness we hope that his family can take strength from knowing the high regard in which he was held. Subject: [Aus-soaring] Final Glide - Ian Patching Hi all Haven't seen this mentioned on this mailing list yet - apologies if I missed it and am repeating. Personally I am honoured to have known Ian. His enthusiasm and encouragement is the reason my shed is full of wooden gliders ! I was privileged to attend his flying day at Bacchus Marsh on 27th January. Please see the two announcement messages from Ian's family below. Soar forever Patch -Cath Begin forwarded message: From: "Ian Patching" <[email protected] <mailto:[email protected]> > Subject: Patch update - RIP Date: 27 February 2014 7:08:36 PM ACDT To: "Ian Patching" <[email protected] <mailto:[email protected]> > Dear All Early this morning (Thursday 27/2/2014) Ian passed away peacefully in the company of his wife Ruth and sons Tighe and Kiernan. He had achieved the goals he had set for his final few weeks and was ready to let go - his final glide on this earth planned and executed to perfection. We like to think he is now free to fly forever. Many thanks, once again, for all your messages of support. We will be holding a memorial service in a couple of weeks and hope as many of you as possible can attend. Details will be circulated by email and also published in the Herald Sun when finalised. In lieu of flowers we would like to make a donation to the Olivia Newton John/Austin Hospital who cared for Ian and all his family so well. More details about this will be available shortly if you would like to contribute. Follow his lead, say the important things while you can and live a life full of giving and love. Best wishes to all, especially those going through their own difficult times Ruth, Tighe, Kiernan and extended family Begin forwarded message: From: "Ian Patching" <[email protected] <mailto:[email protected]> > Subject: Patch update - Memorial Service Date: 2 March 2014 11:49:43 AM ACDT To: "Ian Patching" <[email protected] <mailto:[email protected]> > Dear All Just some advance notice in case you would like to attend and have to re-arrange plans: a Memorial Service will be held for Ian Patching DATE: Thursday 13 March 2014 TIME: 11am VENUE: Eltham Community and Reception Centre <http://www.nillumbik.vic.gov.au/Things_to_do/Community_Centres/Eltham_Commu nity_and_Reception_Centre> , 801 Main Road, Eltham VIC 3095 DONATIONS: In lieu of flowers you may like to donate to the Olivia Newton John Cancer and Wellness Centre/Austin Hospital who cared for Ian and family so well for so long.
